            About Capizzi Home Improvement

Third-Generation Home Remodeling Company Serving Cape Cod, MA

Let me start by sharing a little bit about myself and where I’m from. For starters, it’s probably no big surprise that I became a contractor. I was basically destined to be one, following in the footsteps of both of my grandfathers and my father. It is because of them that I learned the single most crucial value to have both in life and in business, but especially in the construction industry. This value holds true, even to this day.

            A Family Affair

My grandfather, Grandpa Capizzi (Anthony Capizzi), was a fine finish carpenter, an amazing jazz guitarist, and a chef. When it came to his craft, the most important things were his word (doing what he said he would do) and providing exceptional, quality work.

The carpentry trade was an art form to my grandfather, probably as a result of his heritage and the traditions passed down to him. I remember the cause of major frustration for my grandfather was having to witness firsthand many deplorable projects done by other contractors. He would get very angry about it, often saying, “If you’re going to do a job, do it right.”

There was also my Papa, Joe Coughlin, who was always in the customer service business, from owning a little store in Connecticut as a young man to becoming part owner/manager of our local Howard Johnson here on Cape Cod, to his final career as a new home builder. In the 1970s, he built good quality, affordable new homes for young families to finally realize their dreams of homeownership.

His advertisement in the paper was simple; it read, “New Home for Sale. No Money, No Problem. Call me, Joe Coughlin, Builder.” He was one of the first to offer no money down to buy a home by loaning them the down payment! Papa was successful by helping other people get what they wanted and needed.

And then there is my father, Tom Capizzi, Sr. Yup, you guessed it. He started in the business by following in his father’s footsteps and learning the carpentry trade. In 1976, he founded Capizzi Home Improvement in Cotuit, MA, in the same office building we are in today.

My dad continued the tradition of providing good, quality work and doing what he said he would do for his clients—a simple formula that we still follow here in the present day. (Also, like his father, he enjoys playing the guitar and likes to cook. Does anything ever change?)

Driven To Score You A Winning Home Project

Not only am I passionate about keeping my heritage and traditions foremost, but I am also driven to making your home improvement project a success. As an avid race car fan, driver, and instructor, I can tell you that there are a lot of comparisons to be made between race car driving and the home improvement process.

Sports car racing is fast-paced, complex, and yes, extremely dangerous. It cannot be taken lightly. Otherwise, awful things can and do happen, especially when travelling well over 100 MPH. The same is true in the home improvement business. I see it as an equal comparison.

You, as the client, are the driver. Your goal is to get your car (the home improvement project) across the finish line and pick up your checkered flag. The checkered flag, in this case, represents you having an exceptional total experience, which would result in a first place win. Of course, there are other positions like second and third place; but did you know there is something much worse than last place? A DNF (Did Not Finish)!

Not finishing can be due to many different reasons, such as a mechanical failure during the race rendering the car no longer roadworthy, or a total crash out, which can be small, large, and sometimes even catastrophic.

            Do you see the similarities?

In order to win a race, a lot of things have to go right. The same is true for you to come out a winner with your project. You need a great, high-quality, reliable carpenter and contractor as well as a top-notch team that can navigate the twists and turns of the project.

Whether it is a room addition, kitchen or bath remodelroofing or siding installation, or even building a new home, it needs to be built with all of the same attributes—quality and reliability. Getting the win in home improvement can only be accomplished by hiring the right team to build and support it, and I am certain we can get the job done for you.
